Trump now supports Irish and Russian nationalism
So Trump is suddenly an Irish nationalist. But how do Irish people feel about him?
A More in Common survey from June 2026 reported that 73% had little or no trust in the United States under Trump as a reliable economic partner (including 47% who said “not at all”). Only 19% expressed meaningful trust.
Earlier in 2025 an Ireland Thinks poll for the Irish Independent found 74% opposed inviting Trump for a formal state visit and 74% opposed him addressing the Irish parliament.
Yes, Trump is almost as unpopular in Ireland as Oliver Cromwell and the potato famine! In fact, the only people who still support him in the Emerald Isle are the 300 or so people employed at his Doonbeg Golf Resort, the largest employer in West County Clare, and even most of those secretly hate him (just like the upper echelons of the Republican Party). Yes, there is certainly a lot of shit at the end of the Trump rainbow.
