White people on the internet are feeling like weak, pathetic victims again, after a 14-year-old girl committed suicide following a piece of standard "interracial" bullying at a public high school in New Jersey.
First, here is what happened:
Students at a New Jersey high school are outraged at the administration who they say are dropping the ball on a serious issue: bullying.The students at Central Regional High School in Berkeley Township walked out of their classrooms on Wednesday, upset and angry over the suicide death of 14-year-old Adriana Kuch. She was found dead at home by her family on Feb. 3 after taking her own life, police said.Video posted to social media last week showed several students viciously attacking Kuch as she was walking with her boyfriend in a school hallway. Two days later, she took her life at home.Her father is livid that police weren’t called after the school attack."A kid is assaulted with a weapon and their policy is not to call the police or file a report," said Michael Kuch.
The "weapon" by the way appears to have been a plastic water bottle.

Really, this is about the same as you would have after a typical Lacrosse match.
Now here is the response from White people on the internet:

So, what is the real story here? A quick look at the school's demographic shows that it is a majority White school with over ten times as many Whites as Blacks:
"70% of Central Regional High School students are White, 18% of students are Hispanic, 6% of students are Black, 4% of students are Two or more races, and 2% of students are Asian."
Also Kuch was not alone at the time. She was actually with her boyfriend. And the attack was quickly stopped by school staff:
The attack was broken up 30 seconds later by two school employees, with Adriana Kuch left bruised and bloodied on the floor.
Yes, it was not nice and pleasant, but hardly the kind of extreme abuse of an isolated and outnumbered individual that would drive one to take one's life.
Something else was clearly wrong with this girl that her family and the school authorities failed to pick up on -- possibly just being a teenager in modern day America, with an exaggerated tendency to over-emotionalise minor events.
Yet, millions of other modern day American teenagers with similar characteristics seem to make it through, despite facing conditions a lot worse than this. Let's focus on empowering messages like that instead of disempowering victim narratives like this.

I disagree. I think we need to distinguish between in-group preference, which has always existed, and actual "racism," which is a recent term with a distinct flavour that only comes into being from the 1960s onwards as part of the "anti-racism" ideology of an America that was "internally decolonising" and then was later co-opted on a more permanent basis for low-fertility multicultural societies that rely on immigration to subsist. Deleteas i read it its not a comparison in the sense that the bullying video is like a beheading, but that the beheading videos communicate a Win instead of acting the victim.

ReplyDeleteI came across this post via R. Spencer's linking to it. I found it to be very insightful. One of the most important take-aways for me was that we want to raise emotionally mature kids, so that a physical attack of this nature is not something that would be a factor in them considering suicide.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of your other posts yet, so I'm curious on your stance on they hysterical nature of the dis-right vs the left... For example, you describe "hysterical nature of dis righters". I'm wondering if you also consider some of the "leftists" to be hysterical as well. I'm also curious as to how you consider physical violence vs "verbal insults".
I would myself mostly consider "the left" to be the more "hysterical" in nature in how they will actually become hysterial over non-physical violence, such as a joke or insult. And how some on the left will consider physical violence an appropriate response to a verbal insult/joke
