People forget that like a 1/3rd of the white people in the NY metro area are Jewish. They aren't a tiny minority of 2-3% there, unlike most of the rest of the country. Public schools in NY often close on the major Jewish holidays. White New Yorkers look physically different than whites elsewhere in the country because most are at least part Jewish or part Italian--its probably the only part of the country where the majority of white people have substantial Med genes. You could tell the Mets fans apart from the Braves fans at a game in Atlanta even if they no one was wearing team merchandise. If NBC Universal was founded and headquartered in Salt Lake City I'm sure Mormons would be vastly overrepresented due to geography alone.
