While Trump and Netanyahu have been meeting in Washington, the Iranian-supported, pro-Palestinian Houthis have boarded and sunk another oil tanker in the Red Sea.
As reported by Seatrade Maritime News:
"A video released by the Houthi shows the attack on the bulker Magic Seas in the Red Sea. The slickly produced video is reminiscent of one released by the Houthi in November 2023 of the hijacking of the car carrier Galaxy Leader which marked the start of the rebel group targeting commercial shipping in the southern Red Sea and beyond. The video shows the attack on the vessel by unmanned surface vessels and missiles. Later, after the crew had abandoned ship and been rescued by another merchant vessel, it shows members of the Yemini Armed Forces, before ending with footage of the Magic Seas sinking. The attack on the Magic Seas marked a restart of the Houthi targeting commercial shipping the southern Red Sea after a lull in attacks since 26 December 2024."
The Magic Seas was boarded on the 6th of July and sunk on the 7th. But this is not the only attack that has occurred in recent days:
"A second Liberian-flagged bulker Eternity C was attacked on 7 July using sea drones, fast moving skiffs and RPGs. Three Filipino seafarers were killed in the attack and another injured."
The reason for the attacks on the ships was because they had previously called at ports in Israel, a nation that is currently engaged in operations that have been widely described as "genocidal" against Palestinians in Gaza.
The incidents are apparently being heavily deprioritized by Western media, which may be attempting to downplay them in order to reduce the "information warfare" aspect of the attacks.
But this is a serious incident that deserves major news coverage, as it marks the end of the lull in such attacks, following major military operations by Western navies combined with air-strikes by America, Israel, and others in 2024.
