it was initially irrelevant elements of the far-right who got boosted and astroturfed by Russian elements and Silicon Valley billionaires to help Trump and create a "radical" hard right to shift the Overton window rightwards and reshape the GOP. This was and remains its purpose. that so few self-proclaimed alt-righters understand this is honestly hilarious.
