From Badenoch to Worsenoch, humiliated in Hamilton
In a further blow for beleaguered Tory leader Kemi Badenoch, the Conservative Party has suffered yet another humiliating electoral defeat, this time in Scotland in a by-election for the Scottish "regional" Parliament.
First of all, the Conservative Party had zero chance of picking up the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse seat, which is usually contested between the Labour Party and the Scottish National Party, but they desperately needed to put in a respectable performance. Instead, Tory support plummeted against low-quality candidates from the other parties, finishing in an embarrassing fourth place, just ahead of the Greens, with a pathetic 1,621 votes (6.0%).
This was well behind third-placed Reform UK (7,088 votes, 26.1%) and its own previous performance in the constituency back in 2021, when the Tory candidate got a decent 6,332 votes (17.5%).
The seat went to the Labour candidate, 63-year-old Davy Russell, who has eked out a career in the so-called "charity" sector and in dubious public-private firms, on which much of the sclerotic Scottish economy is based.

The devastatingly bad result for the Tories can only increase the pressure on Badenoch, who is seemingly being kept in her position as leader simply to soak up as much of the bad electoral karma as possible before being dumped for a more promising candidate further down the road. Better not leave it too late at this rate!
