Maybe we can invent a word for it, like "Freedomicide" -- to mean not the death of freedom, but instead death by freedom. This is becoming an increasingly palpable fact in the developed World. So much so that even prominent Democrats are now forced to recognise it in increasingly torturous ways. Torturous because they want to cling on to the idea that it's all good.
Listen to this awkward phrasing from Chuck Schumer:
"We have a population that is not reproducing on its own with the same level that it used to. The only way we’re going to have a great future is if we welcome immigrants… get a path to citizenship for all 11 million [illegal immigrants]."

The glaring fact here is that the West is a demographic deathcamp that needs constant topping up, and of course the topping up will need topping up as well, and so on.
It's not "The Great Replacement," as claimed by the Dissident Right. One population is not being replaced by another. It's more a case of "The Great Dilution" as whatever population is now in the developed World (including Asia) is constantly augmented in its demographic death spiral by yet more Third Worlders. This will continue at least until the process -- which is centred in the West but is detrimental to all humanity -- breaks down. Enough Third World immigration, combined with a low enough assimilation rate, might achieve that. But, really, things don't look good.
The Hispanics, Indians, and Chinese who increasingly make up the insurge of "The Great Dilution" are not that bad at assimilating. No, the machine has plenty of fuel for its genocidal ovens for some time yet, and the longer it continues the greater damage it will do.
The problem at root is the simple one of too much freedom. People (or really women, as they tend to have the veto) are free to marry, not marry, marry late, have children, not have children, have too few children, etc., etc., with the net result that, as Schumer puts it through his contorted mouth, we in the developed World are "a population that is not reproducing on its own."
His solution, by the way, is so obviously a stopgap and temporary one.
If there is hope, it lies in the more totalitarian-leaning societies in the World. Not because they are doing well demographically. They aren't. But because they have the political systems in place to override the "sui-genocidal" tendencies of humans that freedom and modernity always unleash.
A Kim Jong-un, a Xi Jinping, even a Vladimir Putin (if he survives the mess he has made of the Ukraine War), at least have the potential to destroy the nexus of deadly freedoms that people like Schumer are recognizing here.
But, be warned. It won't be easy. To turn the clock back, from 1.4 and falling to 2.1 and rising, will involve some pretty radical restructuring, reprogramming, and re-incentivisation of society.
This will be the main political challenge of the 21st century: to realise that freedom kills and then to kill freedom, or at least elements of freedom.
There will be high costs to do that. Without freedom, many things that do now work won't work. Dealing with the fallout from the death of freedom will be the second challenge of the next 100 years and probably a lot longer.

Njaah, you dont really need these big dramatic anti-freedom orgasmo-revivalist-dramas to plot a new and more sensible social and political course for the West. I have been prone to such thinking myself, I must admit, but its not really necessary.
ReplyDelete1. The demographic problem of the West is probably overblown (to better pave the way for mass migration? And to spur on some kind of crisis-mentality?).
2. You can have a bit of foreign workers here and there, no problem. But mass migration with people arriving in boatloads having been granted universal rights that get them all kinds of things in other peoples countries is just too wild.
3. The non-democratic nature of western politics. Western political elites clearly are just doing what they want to. Whatever that ultimately is. Mass migration? No problem. Done and dusted. Completely overriding any popular concerns as to the lasting benefits of mass migration. Done and dusted. Ongoing wars in the third world. Done and dusted. That climate-thingy. Done and dusted. Covid-operation. Done and dusted (later to get them willfully busted?). Democracy really is a pretense, but it truly should not be.
