LOW-POWERED TORY FIELD CONTEST LEADERSHIP OF "DEAD" PARTY

Following the near wipe-out of the Conservative Party at last week's general election, the contenders to replace Rishi Sunak as leader of the shattered party are hoving into view. Sadly for the Tories, it is a rather uninspiring field.

According to a recent poll of party members carried out by YouGov, the leading candidates are two shrill brown women, whose main asset is that they provide cover for the party's overwhelmingly boomer white male base to offset all the accusations of "racism" and "sexism" that they have inadvertently internalised over the years by living in a "woke" culture.

Toneless Nigerian "boomer-whisperer" and "dog whistler" Kemi Badenoch had a commanding lead (31%) over her Indian rival "dog whistler" and "boomer-whisperer" Suella Braverman (16%).

Of the 8 candidates mentioned in the poll, four are brown and four are white; also four are male and four are female. Presumably, based on this, half are probably gay in some way, LOL. None of them are remotely inspiring or even vaguely interesting.

The full results are as follows:

• Kemi Badenoch: 31% (Nigerian background)
• Suella Braverman: 16% (Indian background)
• Tom Tugendhat: 15% (Jewish & French background)
• Jeremy Hunt: 12% (Chinese wife)
• James Cleverly: 10% (Sierra Leonean background)
• Robert Jenrick: 7% (English)
• Priti Patel: 6% (Indian background)
• Victoria Atkins: 2% (English)

  1. The problem with Braverman and Badenoch is that they offer Farage-lite without the charisma. I watched Braverman speak at the National Conservative conference and while the substance wasn’t all bad her speech was often rambling and her delivery awkward. Maybe if she hires a half decent speechwriter and undergoes a Sturgeon-esque makeover she could be half decent. But I suspect she’s too unpopular with her colleagues given her propensity for slagging them off and she will defect to reform.
The rest are much of a muchness.
All in all, I expect Reform to keep chipping away at both Labour and the Tories’ numbers in the polls.
