Joe Biden's trying show he's still got the fight in him to take on Donald Trump in November by "fighting" the soft pressure his own party is putting on him to step down.
But it is an increasingly forlorn effort, as the biggest guarantee of Trump's success in November is Joe Biden being his opposition. There is even talk of the Trump team making moves to help keep Biden in the race.
Most damning of all is polling data shown in the graph above, that shows almost any other Dem candidate doing better against Trump than Biden, a LOT better.
These match-ups come from polling carried out on behalf of WelcomePAC, a Dem-affiliated group.
According to this, Trump has 3 points on Biden, which in the US system, where the Dems often win the popular vote while losing the electoral college, would give Trump a landslide. Vice President Kamala Harris also struggles against Trump, but other possible match-ups, like Gretchen Whitmer or Josh Shapiro, already has firm leads against Trump, and that's even before they open their mouths in a proper campaign against a target as massive as Trump.

Given the lack of an outstanding alternative candidate, Kamala is the only option. It’s easier to sell to the public who know that in all probability Harris would succeed Biden at some point in a 2nd term anyway. It’s their own fault that she is totally lacking in charisma and will likely lose to Trump.
ReplyDeleteAnything else is a “Hail Mary” as the Yanks would put it. Of those, Michael Obama is probably their best option but they’re probably keeping their powder dry for 2028.
