Israel's embattled Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is ready to envisage a World without Palestine -- and therefore, by implication, without Palestinians. At least, that's the clear message he gave during a recent speech at the United Nations.
While the speech focused on reaching agreements with nearby Arab nations that he doesn't plan to genocide just yet, the map he used to illustrate the "New Order" he wanted in the Middle East, noticeably omitted Palestine or any mention of Palestinian territories. In fact, all Palestinian territories were shown swallowed up within a 'greater Israel' that has yet to be recognized by any other country.
It is not clear how Netanyahu plans to dispose of the millions of Palestinians still living in what he clearly deems to be "Israel," although the only possibilities include direct extermination, expulsion, or "Israelification" (rather like the "Russification" that Vladimir Putin is attempting in part of Ukraine and the "Sinification" that the Chinese government is implementing with its Uighur and Tibetan areas).
That Netanyahu is willing to float such radical ideas that would have been anathema in an international forum like the United Nations, is yet further proof that we are moving from a so-called "rules-based" world order, in which issues are mediated through generally agreed moral principles, to a more dangerous one that will based more on Realpolitik and "might is right."
Only a crushing defeat for Russia in its ongoing invasion of Ukrainian territory can halt or slow this global trend, and restore the pre-existing moral order that has allowed Palestinians to hope for the restoration of their state despite constant military failure.

ReplyDeleteIt looks like that the policy makers behind the scenes of pretty much all countries and various political entities are trying to interpret then invoke Schmitt’s state of exception including NGOs like the W.H.O.
