KANYE WEST MISSING - HOW LONG TILL HE BACKS DOWN?

Following the media storm surrounding Kanye West in recent weeks, Luke Ford comments on the strange silence that now surrounds him. Has he gone to ground? Has the "Yedolf" phenomenon died a natural death.

  1. Hi Colin, I hope the below text is good enough to publish on your site. I’m not sure it’s that coherent, but I hope it’s novel and entertaining to read. I'll probably continue lurking for the coming months. Until I return, regards Bernard

The Picasso Museum in Malaga has a sign outside, there are no words on this sign. Stylistically it looks akin to a road sign. The sign has three symbols on it, a mobile phone, a camera flash and on top of these two a prohibition sign. First warning, the wrong type of people visit here. The second signal is the queue of people in shorts and t-shirts outside. Once inside I discover that it’s not only the queue that is crammed full of homo saps, the halls themselves are packed. The worst I discover on the inside, I’m no Picasso connaisseur. My thirst for pleasant aesthetics is in the end comforted by the museum facade and atrium. If you’re in town, the better venues are the Carmen Thyssen museum and the Museo de Málaga, superior art and fewer visitors.

The correct way to hide one's lack of refinement is to take pictures of paintings when no one is looking, that's how I do it. At the National Gallery in London, five Americans are standing in line, each with a mobile phone in their hand. Patiently waiting their turn to photograph the same painting, a Rubens painting of Samson and Delilah. Myself standing there, I just want to look at the painting. To the modern man a painting is like a car crash, whenever you stumble upon one you stop and snap a photo of the scene. Three young women in skirts are in the Wallace Collection (museum), they use the different rooms as a backdrop for their photo session, images to be published on Tinder or TikTok one assumes. Their splendor and pose distracts me and my hatred of camera phones. At least for a moment.

Visually the new Norwegian National Museum seems like a scarecrow to keep the hoi polloi out. The good and the beautiful should enjoy their art in peace and tranquility. But to no avail, despite the ugly facade the rabble is here anyway. What I assume is a second attempt to distract the masses from great painters like Christian Skredsvig, Peter Nicolai Arbo, Harriet Backer; they have dedicated large parts of the museum second floor to contemporary art. The good and beautiful clearly have taken care to curate entertainment for the mob. There is, among other things, an exhibition of twenty frying pans. All of them glued to the wall, each pan contains a sunny-side-up egg. To the untrained pleb, installations like this may look like they’ve been found at a flea market. What is on the third floor of the National Museum I cannot say for sure, the furthest I got was the top of the stairs. I glanced at the lighting and heard the industrial tune playing, I turned and went back down in fear and disgust.

    Merry Christmas
    Bernard
