"DARK BRANDON" MEME TAKES SHAPE WITH FBI RAID ON TRUMP

America's increasingly childish politics has apparently reached a new low with a couple of memes doing battle IRL and in the media space.

For some time, the Trump camp has been trying to relaunch the former President with the "Dark MAGA" meme, while the Biden camp has responded with the equally sinister "Dark Brandon" meme. Now, following the logic of that meme, the Biden camp has sent the FBI in to raid his rival and dig up "evidence" for a Stalinist show trial.

As reported by the BBC:

Ex-US President Donald Trump has said his Florida home was "raided" by the FBI, and that agents broke open a safe.

Mr Trump said in a statement that Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach was "occupied by a large group of FBI agents".

The search was reportedly connected to an investigation into Mr Trump's handling of official papers.

US media reports that the search is related to documents which the president may have taken to Mar-a-Lago on leaving the White House.

Mr Trump's lawyer, Christina Bobb, told NBC News that some papers had been seized during the search.

The dramatic escalation of law enforcement scrutiny of Mr Trump comes as he prepares for a possible third presidential run in 2024.

He said he had co-operated with all relevant government agencies and so the "unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate".

Yes, if it was about a few missing documents, the correct thing to do would be to send a polite request to return them. The fact that Biden chose to send in FBI goons suggests he is acting out the Dark Brandon meme IRL.

But more on these memes. Newsweek describe Dark MAGA as the following:

"Dark MAGA is a post-alt-right aesthetic that promotes an authoritarian version of Trump in dystopian, Terminator-like images. In some, the Trump Tower is painted entirely in black and the former president is seen piercing through the screen with blue laser eyes."

Dark MAGA draws heavily from the vaporwave aesthetic, and is an attempt to reignite the same "Alt-Right" energy that Trump had in 2016. Dark Brandon, by contrast, is a counter meme that more or less says, "We have the power now, and we are going to crush you!"

To the small number of societies that still have mature functioning democratic systems this looks increasingly eccentric, outlandish, grotesque, and laughable.
