Boris Johnson was essentially a cowardly leader who made weak decisions to avoid immediate criticism. As Simon Webb (History Debunked) points out, these decisions, such as his embrace of a hard lockdown, have had long-term negative effects that will continue to reverberate through British society. These include non-Covid deaths exceeding average deaths and rising (see graph) and an epidemic of illiteracy, with a third of children in the UK unable to read at a functional level.
